Qualifications

Marathon Sports Foundation offers a range of qualifications for the active learning and leisure sector.  Qualifications include functional skills plus vocationally related qualifications delivered by specialist private tutors, part-time and full-time at our various centres, to give you the best learning experiences suited to your individual learning needs.

You do not need to hold any specific qualifications to access the courses below; however you do need

to be 14 years of age to register for the qualifications.

From 2021 we will also be providing a range of online courses!

Leisure, Sport & Physical Activity

Level 2 Certificate

Overview

This qualification, intended for learners aged 14 over introduces you to the scope of the active leisure industry and the skills required for employment within the sport and physical activity sector. You will have the opportunity to participate in sports and physical activities, developing an understanding of the rules and safety considerations. You will then apply this knowledge by developing the ability to lead sport and physical activity sessions.

 

Progression

This qualification may lead to paid employment or unpaid voluntary roles in leading sports activities, working as part of a coaching team as an assistant or support role. This could include supporting the delivery of activities within primary schools or securing a part-time role within a leisure facility, holiday club or a community based participation programme.  The qualification will support an application for an intermediate apprenticeship in activity leadership, coaching, exercise and fitness or leisure operations for learners seeking to progress to a paid in-training role rather than opting for traditional post-16 educational routes.

Coaching Sport & Instructing Physical Activities

Level 2 Diploma

Overview

This qualification is intended for post-16 learners who wish to study a vocational sport and physical activity qualification, and be provided with the opportunity to apply theory through a number of practical activities, such as coaching.

 

Following successful completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress into employment in various roles within the Sport and Active Leisure industry.

- Supporting the delivery of Physical Education and             school sport

- Sports coaching

- Instructing gym sessions or classes

- Leading physical activity sessions in the wider                   community

- Multi skills coaching

Coachig Sport & Instructing

Sports Performance & Excellence

Level 3 Diploma

Overview

You will develop the knowledge understanding and skills required to profile sport performers and develop a personal and professional development plan, and understand the sporting landscape, performance pathways and the impact of lifestyle and the media on sports performance. You will also study physiology, nutrition and psychology in a sports performance context. Finally, you will develop key transferable research skills whilst also being offered the opportunity to understand and engage with innovation and enterprise within the sector

 

Progression

This qualification is intended for post-16 learners who wish to develop knowledge, understanding and the skills required to establish an academic and/or career pathway within the area of sport performance and excellence.

 

Successful learners will be eligible to progress to higher education or alternatively they will be able to source employment or fulfil roles within the area.
